SAN ANTONIO, TX – A mother of three in San Antonio fatally shot an intruder in late April who’d broken into her home while her children were sleeping, and thanks to the Castle Doctrine, authorities say the woman isn’t facing any charges in the matter.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 28th at approximately 10:00 p.m. while the woman was with her children at their home located off of Kashmuir Place and Kellis Avenue.

Authorities say the deceased, later identified as 41-year-old Roman Rodriguez, had managed to make his way into the laundry room through a back door and was actively trying to enter through the main door leading into the home.

The woman reportedly heard Rodriguez breaking in and retrieved a firearm, shooting Rodriguez twice in the chest. By the time officers arrived on the scene, they found Rodriguez sitting in a chair in the backyard, bleeding from the sustained gunshot wounds.

While en route to the hospital, authorities say Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries. The homeowner nor her children suffered any injuries during the incident, according to reports.

Officials did not share any details on whether the decedent and victim were at all familiar with or had some other connection to each other.

Earlier in April, a home invasion that occurred in Arlington, Texas, resulted in tragedy as two family members inside of the home were gunned down and a third one injured.

The incident occurred on April 11th at a residence located off the 5300 block of Ivy Hill Drive just after midnight. Arlington Police reportedly received numerous 911 calls at the time over gunfire being heard in the area.

When authorities arrived at the residence, they found three gunshot wound victims inside of the home, one of which was an 84-year-old man, later identified as George Robert Nitsche, who was already deceased by the time police arrived. The two other victims were identified as a 67-year-old woman and a 41-year-old male. Unfortunately, the 41-year-old male, later identified as Matthew Thomas, passed away after arriving at the local hospital.

Investigators say that an unidentified individual forced their way into the home and opened fire on the three victims. While they haven’t released a possible motive for the deadly home invasion, authorities say they believe that the attack was not “random.”

The 67-year-old woman has since been released from the hospital. When speaking to a local news outlet, the surviving victim stated that the two killed during the home invasion were her son and ex-husband. The woman further alleged that their home had been broken into recently prior to the fatal home invasion, but it’s unclear whether the same suspect was involved.

Arlington Police PIO Jesse Minton stated that they’re “hopeful that maybe somebody out there knows something about why this house was chosen and would give us some more information.”
