Among the members who make up the Democratic Party that controls Washington at the moment is Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), who recently decided to give a speech at an award ceremony.

While it isn’t out of the ordinary for politicians to give speeches, Sen. Blumenthal gave a message at an event hosted by a Communist Party affiliate.

According to a new report, Blumenthal attended the event, which was set to recruit new members to the organization. It also presented the three winners of the Connecticut People’s World Committee’s annual “Amistad Award.” A think tank in the same state, the Yankee Institute, found the committee was affiliated to the Communist Party USA and a news site People’s World, known for spreading Marxist theories.

Still, Blumenthal stated, “I am really excited and honored to be with you today and share in this remarkable occasion.”

Like most Democrats, the Senator also used his time to support President Joe Biden and his “Build Back Better” plan. He also pushed to get rid of the filibuster and raise the minimum wage to $15. It should also be mentioned that Blumenthal focused on the importance of “holding corporations accountable for the basic treatment of the American people.”

After Blumenthal was done speaking, the ceremony emcee Lisa Bergmann took the mic to blast corporations for the “imperialism that exists in our world that is undermining the labor and environment.”

Bergmann would conclude the speech with a call for membership. “If you are not already part of the Communist Party, we invite you to participate and contribute and join. There’s more and more people talking about socialism in this country as it becomes more and more clear that capitalism is not going to work for our future.”

Another member Ben McManus shared the same call for action, stating, “join the Communist Party in this epic time as we make good trouble to uproot systemic racism, retool the war economy, tax the rich, address climate change, secure voting rights, and create a new socialist system that puts people, peace, and planet before profits.”

Oh, and Blumenthal is one of the wealthiest members of the Senate with a net worth of around $100 million.
