In a recent opinion piece in Newsmax written by the former Clinton-era Democrat, the author wrote a scathing hit-piece against Fox News host Tucker Carlson – likening Carlson to “behaving like the discredited appeasers of Adolf Hitler in the prelude to World War II.”
We at Red Voice Media have previously reported on the antics that have been taking place at Newsmax that is effectively alienating their viewer base, and the December 14th Newsmax opinion piece written by Dick Morris that was slamming Tucker Carlson is likely not going to bode well with their target demographic.
Morris, whose online bio touts himself as being “credited almost universally with piloting Bill Clinton to a stunning comeback re-election victory in 1996”, is a former Democrat who switched to the Republican party back in 1996.
The irony of Morris claiming to be “credited almost universally” with Clinton’s 1996 re-election is a rather funny bit of revisionist history, as his campaign manager role in the Clinton campaign was cut short two months before the 1996 election following his prostitute scandal that led to him resigning.
Background aside, Morris’ recent opinion piece featured in Newsmax compared Carlson’s coverage of the strife between Ukraine and Vladimir Putin to the Fox News host mirroring the actions of “Britain’s great appeaser of the Nazis, Philip Kerr, the country’s ambassador to the United States later known as Lord Lothian.”
Morris claims that the manner in which Carlson has detailed some of the contributing factors to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is tantamount to the Fox News host “making excuses for Russian strongman Vladimir Putin and his increasing threats against Ukraine.”
Apparently, Morris also heavily criticized Carlson for making “the fantastical claim that NATO has ‘tormented’ Putin. He implies the North Atlantic alliance bears responsibility for a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
While “tormented” might be a bit of a hyperbole, Carlson pointing out that NATO is causing a headache for Putin isn’t farfetched. Morris’ criticisms seem to stem from a December 8th opinion piece from Carlson, where the tormenting notion came from.
“So here’s the Russian position. For Russia, the core question is NATO. NATO is the post-war military alliance created in 1949 to keep the Soviets from invading Western Europe. And it worked pretty well for about 40 years. The Soviet Union has not existed in more than three decades; it’s part of history now. And yet NATO very much lives on, better funded than ever.
It’s an army without a purpose. So at this point, NATO exists primarily to torment Vladimir Putin, who, whatever his many faults, has no intention of invading Western Europe. Vladimir Putin does not want Belgium. He just wants to keep his western borders secure. That’s why he doesn’t want Ukraine to join NATO. And that makes sense. Imagine how we would feel if Mexico and Canada became satellites of China. We wouldn’t like that at all.”
So, based upon Carlson’s rational observation about the Russia/Ukraine situation, Morris decides to liken Carlson as a Nazi cheerleader/sympathizer – and Newsmax gave Morris the platform to adopt what would ostensibly be seen as a CNN talking point.
