SACRAMENTO, CA – According to a report featured in The Gateway Pundit, California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill that will allow illegal aliens the ability to obtain state IDs within California.

On September 23rd, Governor Newsom signed AB-1766 into law, which according to the bill text will ensure that within the next five years, the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles will be issuing “restricted” state IDs to illegal aliens who can provide proof of residency in California.

“This bill would, among other things, require the department to, by no later than July 1, 2027, issue a restricted identification card to an eligible applicant who is unable to submit satisfactory proof that their presence in the United States is authorized under federal law if they provide satisfactory proof of identity and California residency, as specified.”

Considering California already hosts existing laws prohibiting state and local law enforcement from cooperating with immigration authorities, it’s unsurprising that AB-1766 further prohibits “a government agency or department, law enforcement agency, commercial entity, or other person from obtaining, accessing, using, or otherwise disclosing, noncriminal history information maintained by the department, for the purpose of immigration enforcement.”

But with the introduction of state IDs for illegal aliens in California comes other benefits for those who’ve subverted federal immigration law, such as access to in-state tuition for public colleges and universities.

Another gift to illegal immigrants in California that was signed by the governor on September 23rd was AB-2195, which will see special plea bargains for those arrested for “unlawfully cultivating, manufacturing, transporting, giving away, selling, or possession or use of a drug, or possession or use of drug paraphernalia,” being convicted of a “public nuisance” violation – which is a misdemeanor.

The reason why the abovementioned law regarding drug charges being turned into public nuisance convictions behooves illegals is because in the event an illegal immigrant is hemmed up by federal authorities, the likelihood of them being expelled from the country is lessened since immigration authorities wouldn’t be able to see a drug-related conviction.

Additionally, the aforementioned motivation behind this law being signed is crystal clear, considering a press release from Governor Newsom’s office reads, “An alternate plea scheme will be created for defendants charged with drug offenses, which mitigates particular harm for noncitizen Californians.”

In a statement issued by Governor Newsom following the signing of the laws, he framed California as being a “state of refuge,” while adding the tired trope of illegal immigrants “makes our state stronger.”

“California is expanding opportunity for everyone, regardless of immigration status. We’re a state of refuge – a majority-minority state, where 27 percent of us are immigrants. That’s why I’m proud to announce the signing of today’s bills to further support our immigrant community, which makes our state stronger every single day.”
