America’s Southern border is practically crumbling as record numbers of migrants flood into the United States. While Texas Governor Greg Abbott exhausts every resource, he has to maintain some semblance of law and order, many wonder where President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are.
Well, thanks to the internet, an old clip from 1994 has resurfaced showing Biden, then the senator of Delaware, explaining to PBS that it wouldn’t matter if Haiti sunk into the sea. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why he has abandoned the border.
The video in question happened when Bill Clinton was in the White House. At the time, Biden was asked if President Clinton would entertain the idea of invading Haiti following the military coup that happened in 1991 against President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was democratically elected.
Biden responded, “If Haiti, a god awful thing to say if Haiti just quietly sunk into the Caribbean or rose up 300 feet, it wouldn’t matter a whole lot in terms of our interest.”
Fast forward till now, and President Biden faces thousands of Haitian migrants camping under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas. Not to mention, the White House admitted they aren’t sure exactly how many immigrants there are. And when it comes to detaining, processing, and releasing these immigrants, all Press Secretary Jen Psaki would say is that the Biden Administration was monitoring it.
As for Kamala Harris, she, like President Biden, has practically remained silent on the whole matter until reports started circulating that border patrol agents were mistreating and even whipping migrants. The border patrol quickly denied these accusations, but it was enough to catch Harris’s attention.
She lashed out, saying, “What I saw depicted about those individuals on horseback, treating human beings the way they were was horrible. I fully support what is happening right now, which is a thorough investigation into what is going on there, but human beings should never be treated that way, and I’m deeply troubled about it.” She added that she would be talking to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
But again, while Harris is concerned about the safety of migrants, she has yet to give a single suggestion on how the fix the crisis.
